Idaho, central, the Crag Mountains along the waterfall trail in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness area.
Some of my most memorable backpacking trips were in the Bighorn Crags area of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness area in central Idaho. My favorite route is the Waterfall Trail to Ship Island Lake. This trail leads to numerous alpine lakes and waterfalls under these amazing granite cliffs. The waterfall seen here is an outlet to one the lakes that are directly under the cliffs. This is about nine miles in and Ship Island Lake is about a twelve-mile hike over two mountain passes.
