Description
Idaho, southwest, south fork of Owhyee River Canyon. Howard created this image on traditional medium format film.
Narrows in Owhyee Canyon, Chasm cut by Owyhee River, Owyhee County is the most remote county in lower 48 states.
The Owyhee may be Idaho's most secluded river. Hidden among thousands of square miles of canyons and sagebrush desert where Idaho, Nevada, and Oregon meet, the river was named for a group of Hawaiians who disappeared up the river in 1810.
Many hours of rough unsigned four-wheel drive roads and a lot of hiking was necessary to reach this next of the south fork of the Owhyee River. An area that very people have seen and I knew it had the potential for great images being experienced in exploring high desert canyons and rivers.
