Golden sunset over the crown jewel of north Idaho, Priest Lake. Priest Lake and mostly Upper Priest Lake are still largely pristine. Especially considering things like pollutants from mining runoff, population and other problems the other large lakes in the panhandle of Idaho are suffering from. Patches of real old-growth forest thousands of years old can be found north of Upper Priest Lake, an ecosystem all its own, sometimes referred to as an inland rain forest.
