Description
Oregon, central, Texture, patterns and form in the Painted Hills area of the John Day National Monument. The Painted Hills area of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument has amazing color combinations. Heavy rains deepen the saturation. The black streaks are lignite, which is a vegetative matter that grew along an ancient floodplain. The grey coloring is mudstone, siltstone, and shale while the red is laterite, soil that formed by floodplain deposits when the area was warm and humid. Fossil remains of early horses, camels, and rhinoceroses are abundant. Professional nature and landscape photography designed for wall art. Leland D Howard created this image on traditional 4x5 film.
