Description
Old Cabin in Lemhi Range, #ns7
The wind howls through rooms once occupied by a family that was trying to make a living mining gold and silver in the Lemhi Range of central Idaho. The mine played out as so often happened in the gold rush days. Personally I find this history fascinating. It's a bittersweet pleasure to document the unique character of Idaho's ghost towns in photographs. Popular culture often focuses on battles, Native Americans, wagon trains, railroad construction, major gold-rush stampedes, logging, and cattle drives. Monumental struggles encountered by those scratching out a living in the mountains and deserts are too often glossed over. Exploring a ghost town makes history real. Hardy individuals long gone are still felt as a presence in these silent places.
